6. Use-Cases Examples
TM’s clients operate across a variety of industry sectors, a testament to the product’s ability to meet a wide variety of generic data transformation requirements. Significant take-up has occurred in the sectors initially targeted by ETL (Finance, Geoscience and Education Sectors). Other sectors are now investigating the use of TM, comparing it to the other ETL tools in the market place and favourable reports have been received.
6.1. Finance Use-Cases
In the finance sector, TM is used by a large number of major international finance companies based around the world, in cities such as Paris, London and Dublin. Typically, as in the figure below, TM transforms are deployed in a variety of messaging architectures, such as CORBAŽ, Murex™, and WebsphereMQ™, often converting data from an industry standard formats, such as FpML™, to an enterprise standard used internally.
Once converted, these enterprise-wide message systems then communicate the messages throughout the enterprise, with TM often used at the back-office systems to update the data warehouse and respond with a reply that the message has been processed.
Also in the Finance sector, TM is being used to assist with design of XSD (as part of a Model Driven Architecture), automatically converting a bank’s enterprise UML model by implementing their specific transformation requirements and generating the XSD implementation. This demonstrates that TM, as a specialist ETL product, can offer more flexibility than comes with some of the market leading UML tools ETL features.
